Coupling between regional aortic pulse wave velocity and luminal diameters in patients with thoracic aortic aneurysm: initial results from the ACTA study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Thoracic aortic aneurysm (TAA) is life-threatening and requires close follow-up to prevent aortic dissection and/or rupture. Aortic wall stiffness and luminal size are considered to be coupled. Regional aortic wall stiffness in patients with TAA is unknown. Evaluation of regional stiffness may supplement monitoring for prediction of progressive aortic dilatation. Aortic Pulse Wave Velocity (PWV), a marker of vascular stiffness, can be assessed regionally using in-plane two-directional velocityencoded (VE) MRI. The purpose of this study was to evaluate coupling between regional PWV and aortic luminal diameter in patients with TAA.

Coupling between MRI-assessed regional aortic pulse wave velocity and diameters in patients with thoracic aortic aneurysm: a feasibility study
AIMS Thoracic aortic aneurysm (TAA) is potentially life-threatening and requires close follow-up to prevent aortic dissection. Aortic stiffness and size are considered to be coupled. Regional aortic stiffness in patients with TAA is unknown. We aimed to evaluate coupling between regional pulse wave velocity (PWV), a marker of vascular stiffness, and aortic diameter in TAA patients. METHODS In...
متن کاملFSI Simulations of Pulse Wave Propagation in Human Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm: The Effects of Sac Geometry and Stiffness
This study aims to quantify the effects of geometry and stiffness of aneurysms on the pulse wave velocity (PWV) and propagation in fluid-solid interaction (FSI) simulations of arterial pulsatile flow. Spatiotemporal maps of both the wall displacement and fluid velocity were generated in order to obtain the pulse wave propagation through fluid and solid media, and to examine the interactions bet...
متن کاملAortic Pseudo aneurysm 3 Years after Interposition Tube Graft for Acute Dissection of Ascending Aorta
Introduction: Patients with primary acute aortic dissection are at higher risk of complications, including increasing aortic aneurysm diameter, aortic rupture, aortic pseudo aneurysm, and recurrent aortic dissection. Case presentation We presented the case of a recurrent pseudo aneurysm and rupture of the aorta in the distal a...
متن کاملAugmentation index and aortic pulse wave velocity in patients with abdominal aortic aneurysms.
BACKGROUND Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a severe disease that can prove fatal. Factors such as advanced age, male gender, family history and cigarette use increase the risk of AAA. These factors associated with AAA development also increase arterial stiffness. Aortic pulse-wave velocity (PWV) was measured as an index of aortic stiffness. The heart rate-corrected augmentation index (AIx@75...
متن کاملThe Evaluation of Survival in Patients Who Need Intra Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) after Cardiac Surgery
Introduction: Insome cases, assist devices are required to ensure an adequate cardiac output after cardiac surgery. Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) is the most commonly used cardiac assist device, which provides first-line support for patients with heart failure. The aim of this study was to determine factors affecting the mortality rate of patients receiving IABP. Materials & Methods: In thi...
